• Curriculum Writer - Contract Position: 2019-2065

  • The Position:

    An Education Department Curriculum Writer is a contract position for The Headfirst Companies. As a contract curriculum writer, you will write one week (or more— dependent on your availability) as part of the Headfirst library of curricula.  We are seeking Curriculum Writers for the following programs:


    STEM I

    • Rising K and 1st Grade


    • Rising 2nd and 3rd Grade


    • Rising 4th-6th Grade

    Jr Day and Day (combined):

    • Junior Day: Pre-K and Younger
    • Day: Rising Kindergarten to Rising 1st Grade

    What You'll Do:

    • You will write one week of programming at a time, aligning to the Headfirst curricular standards and objectives. A detailed scope of work will be sent to you prior to initial interview. 
    • You will be hired and paid based on the number of weeks of curriculum you write.
    • You will create an ordering list of material for that week of curriculum.
    • The deadlines for each week of curriculum come in 4 states:
      • Curriculum Writer Retreat - ability to attend a 3 hour retreat in late October 
      • Outline of the activities—November 15
      • Draft I—January 15
      • Final Draft—March 15

    About You:

    You are a creative professional with a genuine passion for creating curriculum that will develop the next generation. You back that passion with the following requirements:

    • Experience writing curriculum for the appropriate age and topic is highly preferred.
    • Completed at least three (3) years at an accredited undergraduate institution.
    • Available to attend a curriculum writer retreat on Saturday, October 26, 2019.
    • Experience with Headfirst camps is preferred .
    • Creative: Storytelling and engaging activities are the definition of Headfirst curriculum. We want campers to have fun and to learn by doing.
    • Open to feedback: Your drafts will be edited by Headfirst team members throughout the writing process as we value collaboration, feedback, and creating the best product for campers.
    • Articulate: Your writing style is clear, concise, and engaging.
    • Application of Developmentally Appropriate Activities: While no two campers are alike, you will be writing curriculum for specific age groups – each with their own social, emotional, and physical milestones, challenges, and topic interests. Understanding the age group is essential for successful curriculum developers.
    • Independent: You can work on your own to deliver a product that is in line with the assignment and meet deadlines without need for follow up.
